The Senior Challenge

The Senior Challenge: Frank Poland: Lyrics & Music
Song Motivation: Influenced by discussions with Senior Friends that were encountering barriers and rejection when applying for a needed job to help meet the rising cost of living.

I was once a wealth of knowledge in office halls
Now age is an anchor that displaces all
As a Senior I stand with wisdom’s embrace
Yet no longer finding room in the business place.

Too old they mumble, sealing my fate
A life rich with lessons, now deemed second-rate
Though business turns their back to the wise
Filling up jobs with youthful untrained guys.

Who needs experience, they boldly declare
Unaware of the gems they’re leaving out there
And though they seek the young and the bright
A seasoned Senior brings much deeper insight

‘No one will hire you, said the HR Man
Because of your age, there is no demand
We want the young moldable youth more
The ones that never ask Why or What For

A myriad of skills, yet no jobs to find
Each rejection made clear, the job’s not mine.
Each layer of past experience helps me to fly
Though no work is found beyond this jobless sky.

I’ll keep sending my resume, with dreams untold
Painting my experience with colors bold
For value isn’t tethered to just youthful designs
In the fabric of jobs, all ages should intertwine.

I’ll keep looking for a job, an accepting place
Announcing my strengths, making my case
But I won’t get discouraged when no job is found
I’ll just keep my nose planted to the ground

Everyone, regardless of grey hair and age
Needs a job and place to engage
So lookout world, I’ll continuously try
To find a workplace and job to call mine.
