The Best Of Men

The Best Of Men — Frank Poland: Lyrics and Music “I truly wish my Dad (Rev. Frank Poland) could hear this song to know the tremendous respect and admiration I have for the example he set by his labor of love for his fellow man!” It is true, ‘The older one gets, the wiser their father becomes’.

………………The Best Of Men……………..

Many men toil to build a name
While squandering life for wealth and fame
My Dad was one who had no riches or gold
His treasure was reaching his fellow man’s soul

For many years multiple of ten
He lived his life for other men
In a small church and humble home
With very little time to call his own

Toiling and striving from day to day
Facing whatever that came his way
He was a working Preacher man
Daily working while preaching as best he can

No Choir in robes behind him sang
Nor chimes in a steeple above him rang
He preached without notes like some prepare
But from his heart God’s message he shared

The hymns were sung that everyone knows
The ones sung in church many years ago
‘On Jordans Stormy Banks I Stand’
and ‘Hold To God’s Unchanging Hand’

Beside the graves where the tears start
With comfort he soothed the broken hearts
He did not hesitate to kneel on his knees
To talk to the God of Galilee

Lord thank you for a father with faith to see
While sharing the vision of eternity
A Dad and Preacher who gave his all
To better the way for his family and all

This is the line for him I’ve penned
As a Dad and Preacher he was ‘The Best Of Men’
